An education support programme is helping to unlock better learning opportunities for learners at Nqunde Secondary School, where access to basic science and digital resources has long been a challenge. Through this intervention, funded by Waterloo Solar, the school has received essential science laboratory chemicals and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment, allowing a more practical, hands-on approach to teaching and learning.
The support addressed critical resource gaps that previously limited effective curriculum delivery and practical learning opportunities for learners.
“We are grateful for this generous donation of laptops, laboratory equipment and chemicals. This support significantly improves our ability to deliver practical experiments and engaging lessons, giving our learners real access to digital learning and practical science. This donation will make a lasting difference in the learners’ education and enhance the quality of education in our school,” said Matlhodi Kgomotso, Nqunde Secondary School Principal and Mduduzi Sukazi, Nqunde Secondary School’s Acting Departmental Head for Science and Acting Deputy Principal.
In the past, a shortage of laboratory materials meant learners had little opportunity to conduct experiments, limiting their understanding of key scientific concepts. At the same time, a lack of ICT resources restricted access to digital learning, making it challenging for educators to introduce technology into the classroom.
“With improved access to laboratory and digital tools, learners can engage more actively in lessons, gain practical experience, and build confidence in science-related subjects. Teachers are also better equipped to deliver interactive and effective lessons, creating a more dynamic and supportive learning environment. The initiative forms part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen education in under-resourced communities by improving access to quality learning materials and creating more equitable opportunities for learners,” explained Kebapetse Dipitse, Social Performance Practitioner at Waterloo Solar.
