Young children in Mothibistad and Maruping have started the new school term with excitement as they settle into their brand-new classrooms, creating brighter, safer spaces to learn and play. Thanks to the completion and handover of purpose-built facilities at two Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, learners now have access to modern classrooms designed to support their early development. The milestone was celebrated on Tuesday, 21 July when parents, community members and local partners gathered for the official handover.
The need to replace unsuitable infrastructure at Obama Daycare Centre in Mothibistad and Reaiteka Pre-School in Maruping prompted Kathu Solar Park, in partnership with Breadline Africa, to provide each centre with two fully equipped classroom units. Not only do the new classrooms replace the old structures, but at Obama Daycare Centre they have doubled the space available to enrolled children.
“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Kathu Solar Park, Breadline Africa, the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Santa Shoebox for their generous support in bringing these new classrooms to life. This transformation creates a nurturing environment where our young minds can truly flourish. Together, we are building a brighter future for our children,” said Mabitso Thobega, Principal of Obama Daycare Centre.
Able to accommodate 18 children each, the classroom units were constructed offsite and installed at the centres over a three-month period. Age-appropriate furnishings and early learning materials were also provided to support quality learning.
“As beneficiaries of our comprehensive ECD programme, which extends beyond infrastructure support, both centres also benefit from additional educational resources, leadership and management training, mentoring, practitioner development and registration and compliance support. Our goal is to not only improve the physical environment, but also to enhance the quality of teaching and learning within these classrooms,” said Sandisiwe Mntonintshi, SED Manager for Kathu Solar Park.
Assessments conducted by the programme’s implementation partner, the Centre for Early Childhood Development, highlighted the need for these upgrades, which form part of Kathu Solar Park’s ongoing commitment to supporting early learning in its beneficiary communities.
