During National Library Week, learners from across the Frances Baard District gathered at Galeshewe Recreational Hall to showcase their reading and presentation skills, promoting literacy and a love for reading.
The event, hosted by the Northern Cape Department of Education in partnership with Matla A Bokone Solar, reflects a shared commitment to strengthening literacy and education in local communities.
“Supporting initiatives that promote literacy and encourage strong reading habits among young learners remains critical to long-term educational outcomes. Through our partnership with the Department of Education, we aim to contribute to opportunities that support learners both inside and beyond the classroom,” said Lesego Mosiane, Social Performance Practitioner for Matla A Bokone Solar.
The day began with a march by local scout groups, setting the tone for a community-focused event that brought together educators, officials and families to support young learners. Throughout the day, learners took part in reading and presentation sessions aimed at building confidence and communication skills.
Participants from Isago Primary School, Venus Primary School, Zingiza Primary School, Reneilwe Primary School, Montshiwa Primary School, Tetlanyo Secondary School and Letshego Primary School took part in the programme, demonstrating their reading proficiency and delivering presentations that reflected both their comprehension skills and growing confidence in public speaking. They delivered presentations that highlighted both comprehension and growing confidence in public speaking. The programme created a supportive platform for learners to express themselves while reinforcing the role of libraries as important spaces for learning and personal growth.
Observed annually, National Library Week aims to promote the value of reading and access to information, encouraging communities to recognise libraries as essential resources in building informed and empowered societies.
