Small business support initiatives are playing a critical role in helping to unlock economic growth at community level by creating jobs, increasing household incomes, and strengthening local economies. This is the impact being driven by a targeted SMME development initiative in Kanana.
Funded by Bokamoso Solar in partnership with the City of Matlosana Local Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate, this initiative forms part of the solar plant’s ongoing Enterprise Development programme, aimed at stimulating business potential and equipping local entrepreneurs with practical resources tailored to their operational needs.
“This kind of support goes beyond the businesses that receive it. As SMMEs become more productive and competitive, they create employment, increase household incomes, and keep economic value within the community, and that is exactly the kind of impact we are committed to creating,” said Kebapetse Dipitse, Social Performance Practitioner for Bokamoso Solar.
Through this initiative, two local businesses, Blue Olive Solutions from Ward 20 and Jos Cater Service from Ward 22, received a range of essential assets designed to strengthen their operations, improve service delivery, and increase their ability to generate sustainable income. Equipment provided includes fencing, an ice maker, food preparation surfaces, a three-flavour ice cream machine, storage trolleys and bins, cooking appliances, hygiene equipment, a water dispenser, and a 6-metre GP container.
Beneficiaries are selected through a fair and transparent process that considers factors including existing business operations within Bokamoso Solar’s host communities, demonstrated need for the requested equipment, potential for growth and sustainability, and compliance with programme requirements. The aim is to direct support where it can make the most meaningful and lasting difference.
“We would like to sincerely thank Bokamoso Solar for their continued investment in our communities. This initiative speaks directly to our mandate of empowering local SMMEs and stimulating economic growth. We encourage that such programmes are not limited to Kanana, but are extended to other areas within Matlosana so that more communities can benefit from similar opportunities,” said Councillor Wesley Kgang, MMC for Local Economic Development, City of Matlosana Local Municipality.
