Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)’s 2025 Global Wind Report is Out.
A record-breaking 117 GW of wind power was installed in 2024 – marking a historic leap for the global energy transition. The newly released Global Wind Report 2025 from GWEC highlights how wind energy is expanding into new geographies and becoming a cornerstone of clean energy systems.
South Africa features prominently, with recent policy reforms signalling growing momentum for wind energy across the country and the continent.
But scaling must accelerate. To meet the COP28 target of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, deployment needs to speed up significantly.
Key insights from the report:
- Emerging markets like Egypt, Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia are becoming new wind power hubs
- Policy momentum is building in South Africa, Brazil, Germany, and across Asia-Pacific
- Grid and supply chain upgrades are essential
- Disinformation is emerging as a growing risk to project development
