Mawete FC & Mighty FC promoted to SAFA Madibeng Hollywood Bets Regional League
Young footballers, netball players, and coaches from Mmakau, Damonsville, and Mothutlung are benefitting from a sports development programme that is creating new opportunities for youth in the Madibeng local area. Implemented in partnership with the South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA) and Nda Tirha Media House, and funded by De Wildt Solar, the initiative has already benefitted over 500 young people since its launch in 2023, equipping them with skills, opportunities, and even pathways into professional sport.
One of the programme’s highlights is the success of Mawete FC and Mighty FC, who were recently promoted to the SAFA Madibeng Hollywood Bets Regional League for the 2025/26 season. Additionally, 13 netball coaches completed the three-day NSL Level 1 Coaching Course, while 15 football coaches took part in a 21-day SAFA Coaching C License training this year.
“This sports development programme has given me the chance to connect with other coaches through Netball South Africa, which has been an incredible learning experience. Our players have improved by competing against professional players, and we are excited about the upcoming coaching course later this year. Netball has grown so much, and as a coach, I believe it’s my responsibility to teach my players the importance of professionalism and the opportunities it can bring,” said Sibongile Siquaque, Glitter Girls coach and beneficiary of the programme.
The programme has exposed participants to employment and career opportunities, with one coach securing employment in professional sport. Furthermore, clubs have received donations of soccer jerseys from Bakgatla Ba Mmakau King Sakie Motsepe and Eland Platinum Mine, while Sefako Makgatho University hosted advanced coaching courses.
“By investing in our youth, we are investing in the future of our communities. We’ve seen how sport can give youth a sense of belonging, discipline, and hope, while also opening doors to professional opportunities. By supporting coaches with formal qualifications and helping community teams reach higher leagues, we are not only strengthening community pride but also creating role models who will inspire the next generation,” stated Qinisani Siveshe, Social Performance Manager for De Wildt Solar.
Looking ahead, the programme is set to expand even further, with plans to formalise team operations, accredit more coaches, and provide more opportunities for players.
