Young learners in Douglas, Northern Cape, have been supported with essential learning resources through the distribution of 1 500 brand-new school bags and, for the first time, educational storybooks across six local primary schools, helping to enhance the learning experience while encouraging a culture of reading from an early age.
“Our school is small in size but big in heart, and we appreciate every distribution received,” said Mr Roelf Alex Simon Principal of Bucklands Primary School.
Funded by Boikanyo Solar, the programme was tailored to each school’s size, ensuring that learners across various grades benefited from the initiative.
“Providing learners with basic school resources can make a meaningful difference in their daily learning experience. Programmes such as the Back-to-School initiative help ensure that learners feel supported and motivated in the classroom,” said Lesego Mosiane, Social Performance Practitioner for Boikanyo Solar.
Furthermore, the initiative also supported a local black woman-owned SMME responsible for supplying the school bags and created temporary employment opportunities for three local youth, contributing to economic participation in the community.
Through the successful implementation of this initiative, Boikanyo Solar contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by supporting access to essential learning resources for learners. The programme also contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through local participation during the implementation of the initiative.
