Through a series of engaging training modules and interactive sessions, more than 640 learners gained valuable insights into understanding themselves, identifying their interests, and mapping out their academic and career journeys. These Grade 9 learners, from six local high schools across the Sol Plaatje and Dikgatlong local municipalities, participated in the Career Guidance and Leadership Development Programme, which aims to equip young people with the confidence and knowledge needed to make informed subject and career choices.
“It is important that our beneficiary learners are guided well into making the right subject choices in Grade 9, as this directly influences their eligibility for tertiary education and future career paths. By fostering self-awareness and equipping learners with practical decision-making tools, we are investing in the long-term success of youth across our beneficiary communities,” said Lesego Mosiane, Social Performance Practitioner for Matla A Bokone Solar, the programme funders.
The programme focused on three key developmental modules, namely ‘Knowing Yourself’, ‘Subjects and Career Choices’, and ‘Journey Mapping’, each designed to promote self-discovery, informed decision-making, and goal-setting.
The initiative, which reached learners from Boresetse, Barkley West, Dikgatlong, Delportshoop, Vaalrivier, and Reakantswe High Schools, helped to equip the learners with the tools needed to plan for their futures with confidence.
“I enjoyed the ‘Subject vs Career Choice’ module and found it very informative. It helped me better understand myself and my abilities before deciding on a career,” said Bonolo Lebididi from Boresetse High School.
The overarching goal of the Career Guidance and Leadership Development Programme is to nurture personal mastery, facilitate career exploration, support career action planning, and foster the development of essential soft skills.
