Over 1,700 learners from across four high schools within the Witzenberg Municipality attended the annual Career Day, an important event in the school calendar. This well-attended event was designed to provide guidance, motivation, and practical information on career and study options, while also keeping learners abreast of the available bursary opportunities.
Hosted recently by Perdekraal East Wind Farm in collaboration with the Cape Career Exhibition Association, the initiative was held at Bella Vista High School, Iingcinga Zethu High School, Skurweberg Secondary School, and Ceres Secondary School, targeting Grade 9, 11, and 12 learners.
“Many learners struggle to choose a career path that aligns with their subject choices, which is why events like Career Day are so valuable. By providing learners with such opportunities, it will empower them to make more informed and confident decisions about their futures. These initiatives offer essential guidance and should take place more frequently,” said Anchen Nasson, Principal at Bella Vista High School.
Representatives from numerous tertiary institutions provided guidance on subject choices aligned to specific careers, while also informing students about bursary options that could help overcome financial barriers to higher education.
Exhibitors at the event included institutions such as Stellenbosch University, University of the Western Cape, Northlink College, Eduvos, IMM Graduate School, STADIO Higher Education, Akademia, Cape Audio College, UXI Sport, Potchefstroom Academy, Open Window, Isa Carstens Academy, Belgium Campus, and more, all united in their mission to inspire and inform the next generation.
“The Career Day forms part of our continued investment in educational development in the local area, ensuring that learners are empowered with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures,” said Gwynne-Lee Borcherds, Economic Development Manager for Perdekraal East Wind Farm.
