Supported through a local enterprise development grant funding, GRH Enterprise has brought affordable, quality groceries closer to home for the people of Loeriesfontein. Opened last year by three local entrepreneurs, Gert Cloete, Rebia Beukes, and Hilmeree Beukes, the venture is already making a measurable impact by helping to reduce household expenses and contribute to the town’s growing small business sector.
“We’re proud to run a store that not only provides essential goods to our community but also supports local suppliers. We have been able to make a real difference in the lives of our customers, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our business is more than just a shop, it’s become a hub for the community,” says Gert Cloete, co-founder of GRH Enterprise.
With support from the Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms’ Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Grant Funding, the store was established to address a critical community need, which is access to quality cold meat products and daily necessities at affordable prices. The business offers a range of groceries, including fresh produce and household essentials. The spaza shop is centrally located, making it easily accessible for community members. The shop closes late in the evening so when all the other shops in town are closed and community members realize they forgot to buy something, GRH Enterprise is there to assist.
In just a few months, GRH Enterprise has already made good progress, operating as a sustainable, community-focused business that not only supports local households but also contributes to the local economy.
“Through our ABCD Grant Programme, we are proud to support entrepreneurs like the team behind GRH Enterprise who are identifying local needs and turning them into lasting community solutions,” said Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms.
